Job Scope

Foundation Visual Art and Design exposes students to a wide range of fundamental art, design and media issues and seeks to provide a strong theoretical basis while always validating theory through practice. The Flash courses are mandatory for all students. Flash 1 provides them with the fundamental principles of the software along with the basics of Flash workflow, animation, interactivity and action scripting. The second Flash course, Flash 2, is for Digital Design Stream students only and provides them with advanced techniques for integrating rich media – audio and video – into Flash websites and stand-alone applications.

Currently Foundation Visual Art and Design requires a part-time Instructor to work with existing faculty and teach two Flash courses. Ideally suited to an individual who can match industry experience with depth of education, a credible portfolio and a conscientious approach to teaching, the position requires the delivery of two three-hour classes per week plus some possible curriculum development.

This position reports directly to the Department Head and will be responsible for delivering curriculum effectively and providing feedback to students.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide students with instruction based upon existing curriculum.
• Class attendance and grading.
• Individual guidance of students where appropriate.
• Punctual and conscientious management of classes.
• Collaboration with Head of Department and faculty on progression of courses.
• Collaboration with administration staff on resource and equipment issues.
• Communication with staff and students via email.
• Attendance at staff meetings (once every two months).

Job Qualifications

• Minimum 3 – 4 years experience industry experience.
• Highly skilled Flash programmer.
• Working knowledge as a designer or art director with an interface design and information architect background.
• Portfolio demonstrating a high caliber of professional work.
• Ability to lead workshops, lectures and seminars.
• Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
