The Anna Fiorentini Theatre & Film School, which is a not for profit organisation, opened in 2001 as a Prince’s Trust Business. Since then it has won 3 Business of London Awards and has a growing reputation within the performing arts industry.

Our guiding principle is to provide a safe, supportive environment for young people to explore the performing arts, whether they have dreams of entering the profession or simply wish to use the performing arts classes to learn some valuable life enhancing skills. Students are put in classes according to their age and follow a timetable of drama / film, dance and singing. Set and costume design provides an occasional alternative. This timetable is put in place to ensure that students become all round performers.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Inc. was founded in 1971 and is a private, nonprofit corporation designed to encourage the creation and understanding of media and still photography for noncommercial artistic and literary purposes. To this end, Filmmakers offers a curriculum of courses in film, video, and photography production and theory for credit and non-credit through several colleges and universities as well as to independent students in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Filmmakers is a non-degree granting, accredited institutional member of National Association of Schools of Arts and Design (NASAD). It also exhibits the work of prominent photographers and filmmakers in its Melwood Screening Room, Regent Square Theater and Harris Theater. Filmmakers provides equipment access and funding for media artists.

Founded in 1945, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is a non-profit community arts campus that offers arts education programs and contemporary art exhibitions, providing services and resources for individual artists throughout Western Pennsylvania. The Center is where the community can create, see, support, and learn about visual arts.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts merged as a single cultural organization in 2006.

As a mission-based organization, we do our work because there is a community need. That need is always first when we make decisions and choose a course of direction but we are also keenly aware of our duty to be fiscally responsible and we take that very seriously. The combined PF/PCA is a well managed and financially sound cultural asset as is demonstrated by our adherence to our annually approved budget and prompt payment to all employees, government authorities, and vendors.

Established in 1989 by the Jerusalem Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Sam Spiegel School was the first school in Israel dedicated exclusively to film and television studies. It bears the name of legendary Sam Spiegel, producer of The Stranger, The African Queen, On the Waterfront and Lawrence of Arabia.
A non-profit organization, the school is independent, committed to quality and relentless in its pursuit of setting new standards for training young Israeli filmmakers. The school pursues a unique, story-centered approach to filmmaking that focuses on the short film as a legitimate film genre rather than a stepping-stone to full-length features.

n 1988, a student revolt broke out in the film department of the Beit Zvi School of Art in Ramat Gan, then the sole film school supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Charging that Beit Zvi gave preference to the acting track, the film students demanded self rule. The Education Minister at the time, Yitzhak Navon established a public inquiry that supported the principles of the students’ position. He then decided to create an independent school for film and television, the first of its kind in Israel, to be directed by filmmakers.
After consulting the idea with mayors of different Israeli cities, the mayor of Jerusalem, Mr. Teddy Kollek, and Ruth Cheshin, president of the Jerusalem Foundation, saw a window of opportunity to “bring the ocean to Jerusalem”, in their words. They committed to match government funding, and in June 1989 it was decided that the new school will open in Jerusalem. In July 1989, Ruth Cheshin turned to film director Renen Schorr for a blueprint on establishing the school, set to open its doors in just four months at the start of the school year, November 1989.
The establishment of the school in Jerusalem, far from the center of the film industry in the Tel Aviv region, raised strong opposition from many filmmakers and production companies throughout the Israeli film industry, who claimed that a film school must be located close to the actual workplace of other cinematic activities.
